Get ready for the most mind-blowing fashion event of the season! Last Friday, a bombshell collaboration between EcoPax and Advocates turned Newcomer 19 into the hottest runway on campus, and you won’t believe what went down! Over 50 fabulous students strutted their stuff, all in the name of sustainability and personal empowerment through style. 💃
Meet Advocates, the ultimate LGBTQ+ power squad at Goshen College, led by the dynamic duo Lydia Esh and Peace Muhagachi. These senior leaders made fashion a thing of pride and passion. Lydia spilled the tea about the pre-show hustle, saying, "We were all scrambling before break hit, but wow, did everyone pull through!"
EcoPax, the eco-friendly champs known for championing sustainable fashion with two annual clothing swaps, joined forces with Advocates to create a show like no other. EcoPax president Carmen Merino declared, "It's not just about recycled threads; it's about rocking inclusive and sustainable styles that scream individuality!"
The idea of blending a clothing swap with a fashion show was all about taking things to the next level. Carmen’s vision? Empower everyone to express themselves in their fullest glory. Yes, please!
Lydia couldn't hold back her excitement: "Seeing everyone owning their personal style was beyond cool. It's a perfect way to show off what makes each person unique!"
It all started when a curious student asked where to find gender-affirming clothes. Lydia believes fashion is the ultimate tool for personal exploration, especially on a college campus. You go, Lydia!
Boldly taking the runway was junior Gustavo Gonzalez, a newcomer to modeling who had always wanted to dress up his Fridays. When he spotted the call for models on Instagram, it was a match made in sartorial heaven! And the cherry on top? Strutting his stuff to the iconic "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga with a friend right behind him. Iconic moment alert!
Lydia and Carmen couldn't get enough of everyone hitting the catwalk. Spontaneous volunteers and curated models alike showcased killer styles and infectious energy. Lydia revealed, "The event was full of surprises and thrilling moments until the very end!"
Carmen was in awe watching so many diverse talents take that stage. "We saw athletes and individuals from all walks of life, identities, and orientations simply being themselves." Carmen gushed, “It was magic seeing everyone embracing their true selves—those moments of courage were utterly inspiring!"
