Unbelievable Move by Conad Nord Ovest: Partnering for Women's Empowerment, they hooked up with the ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) for the creation of a whopping 105,000 heart-shaped keychains. And these aren't just any keychains—they are made from recycled inner tubes from tires, engraved with the Conad logo, with a dazzling beaded tassel. Hand-stitched by artisans with red cotton thread, these hearts are set to make waves!
With the countdown to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, Conad was out to make a splash. They tapped into Kenyan craftsmanship, involving a jaw-dropping 21 artisan groups. What’s more? 1,200 people got direct training, and 1,900 jumped into action for this ambitious production. And get this—95% of them are women! The ripple effect? Over 2,500 people indirectly cashing in on this opportunity.
'I can't believe how much this job has changed my life,' gushed a passionate beader from Nairobi, ‘Every stitch secures my children’s future with hope.’
Skills development? Nailed it! With EFI's backing, Tujikuze rolled out extensive training to amp up the skills of local creators. Beading, stitching, and mastering complex designs—all in a day's work for these artisans. And here's a fun fact: the inner tube’s thickness? They tackled it with heavy-duty stitching machines!
And this just in—these newfound skills aren’t just for show; they’re paving the way for future jobs and prepping artisans for large-scale productions.
Economic Boom Meets Social Power: Crafting these keychains isn't just about pockets full of income—it’s an express ticket to a stable, prosperous life. The artisans picked up business management acumen, empowering them to uplift their families and breathe new life into their communities. Barti Leorto from BeadWORKS couldn't be happier, 'Beading earns me enough to support my family.’
Oh, and communities? This incredible project is building bridges, fostering peace where rivalry once ruled.
In a jaw-dropping twist on environmental advocacy, Tujikuze saved those inner tubes from clogging landfills. This collaboration is the poster child for positive change—empowering artisans, boosting women's roles, fortifying community bonds, and leading the charge in sustainable efforts.
